| Sacraments |
The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) observes the two sacraments, baptism and the Lord's Supper, within the context of our congregation's worship. Baptism, a sign and symbol of God's grace, engrafts us into the body of Christ, the church. In celebrating the Lord’s Supper we remember the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ in a shared communal meal at his table. We observe what is knows as "open Communion," which means that all Christians are welcome to the table at St. Andrew, regardless of denomination or affiliation. First grade children and their parents participate in a Sacraments Workshop in September each year, where they gain hands-on experiences to learn about the meaning and significance of baptism and the Lord's Supper. The one occasion when Communion is observed outside the walls of the church is when Communion is served to the homebound members of our congregation. Pairs of members take the elements to those who, due to age or health, are unable to be in worship on the first Sunday of the month. |
