Faithful, authentic Reformed worship lies at the heart of our life together as a congregation. Worship gives glory to God while encouraging us as faithful disciples. True worship always promotes individual and corporate service to Jesus Christ, the Head of the church. We celebrate the sacrament of Communion, or the Lord’s Supper, on the first Sunday of the month, either seated in the pews or by intinction. Intinction at St. Andrew brings worshipers forward, rather than remaining seated, to receive the elements of bread and wine. We also celebrate the Eucharist on such special days of the church year as Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, and Maundy Thursday. The lectionary readings from the Bible help provide the framework for our worship and the Sunday sermons are typically drawn from one of the appointed texts for the day. Following the annual rhythm of the liturgical calendar means we begin the church year with the anticipation of Advent, followed by the wonder of the Christ Child’s birth at Christmas. In late winter we begin to observe the 40 days of Lent, which conclude during Holy Week. We mourn Christ’s death during the service of Tenebrae on Good Friday and we celebrate the joy of his resurrection on Easter Sunday. We then move through Eastertide to the Day of Pentecost, the day the church received the gift of the Holy Spirit. With the coming of the Holy Spirit the church moves out as followers of the Risen Christ in service to others. Sunday Morning Worship Services8:30 & 10:50 amOur Sunday morning worship services are structured more formally than our Sunday evening service, with the Chancel Choir and soloists providing the lead musically. If you prefer more formal music accompanied by the pipe organ, then our Sunday morning services will draw you into worship and we invite you to join us. Sunday Evening Service6:15 pmOur Sunday evening worship features more contemporary Christian music and hymns with a variety of instruments and styles. This service is also more casual than our morning worship services, with a short meditation given by a staff member. If you prefer a less formal style of worship, we invite you to come worship God in song and share joys and concerns in the context of community on Sunday evenings.
