Music
worship-st-andrew

Music is an integral part of our worship and we are blessed with an excellent music ministry. Our music programs include choirs for children, youth and adults, scholarships for students in the University of North Texas vocal music department, and a handbell choir open to high school youth and adults. The Sunday evening ensemble employs more contemporary musical styles and instrumentation.

The Lattner Memorial Organ

The Lattner Memorial Organ was given to St. Andrew Presbyterian Church by Estelle Lattner Brown and her family. The organ, Opus 3625, built by Casavant Frères of St. Hyacinthe, Quebec, Canada, is a three-manual instrument with 29 independent stops and 39 ranks. In addition to the pipes visible in the chancel, there are other pipes and components in the chambers located on either side of the chancel. The console, normally situated in the far left corner, is mounted on a movable platform that can be moved forward to the center of the chancel for recitals.

The gift of the Lattner Memorial Organ was made in memory of the late Mr. and Mrs. S. R. Lattner, who moved to Denton in 1920 and become members of the congregation. The organ was dedicated in 1987 and has enriched our worship ever since. The congregation is most grateful for this generous contribution to our life together.

Chancel Choir

Morris Martin, Director
Organist: Hye-Jean Choi

While the Chancel Choir is enriched by section leader/soloists from the University of North Texas, the mainstay of our chancel choir is the participation of the members of St. Andrew. The choir is open to all members of the congregation and auditions are not required. The choir takes a break during August each year.

Chancel Choir rehearsals:
7:30pm, Wednesday, Adult Choir Room
9:45am, Sunday, Chancel

Noel (K & 1st Grade) and Covenant (2nd-5th Grades) Choirs

Jannette Hindman, Director

Our outstanding children’s choirs rehearse in the Children's Choir Room on Wednesdays during the school year, after the evening meal in Fellowship Hall. This program offers them a time to learn to sing hymns and anthems and experience the sheer joy of musical expression. The children's choirs sing in worship several times a year. A CD of hymns the children have learned throughout the year is made periodically and a copy is given to each child who is baptized at St. Andrew.

Ms. Hindman and adult sponsors attend the Worship & Music Conference at Mo-ranch in June with older elementary aged children and youth from St. Andrew. All look forward to participating in this annual conference.

Covenant Choir rehearsal: Wednesdays, 6:15-7:00pm, Children's Choir Room
Noel Choir rehearsal: Wednesdays, 7:00-7:30pm, Children's Choir Room

Handbell Choir

Jean Harden, Director

The intergenerational adult handbell choir is open to members and non-members alike. The choir plays during worship several times a year, usually during Advent, Lent, and the Easter season. Ability to read music is strongly recommended, but previous ringing experience is not required. The choir meets on Wednesday evenings during the school year.

Handbell Choir rehearsal: 6:20-7:30pm, Adult Choir Room
