SPECIAL EVENTS
Holy Week ¬ March 16 March 23, 2008
We welcome Visitors at all services.
March 16 ¬ Passion/Palm Sunday
Worship Services at 8:30 & 10:50 am
¬ Passion/Palm Sunday provides a link between Jesus’ entry into
Jerusalem
, when the people’s triumphant “Hosanans” rang out before him, and the culmination of his journey to the cross at
Golgotha
on Good Friday. Without Christ’s passion (suffering) on the cross, the glory of the resurrection can become distorted and trivialized.
March 17 ¬ March 18 ¬ March 19
Noontime Service of Prayer & Meditation
¬ A brief, thirty-minute service of prayer, Scripture reading, and silent meditation is offered in the sanctuary these three days of Holy Week. The services provide a time to slow down and reflect on the meaning of Christ’s passion.
March 20 ¬ Maundy Thursday
5:30 pm Evening Meal, followed by the celebration of Holy Communion at 6:15, Fellowship Hall
¬ The narrative of Christ’s passion is continued during the Maundy Thursday meal and observance of Holy Communion. Jesus’ washing of his disciples’ feet, found in the Gospel of John, is remembered on Maundy Thursday, when we gather in Fellowship Hall to share table fellowship and the mystery of Christ’s redemptive presence in the Lord’s Supper.
March 21 ¬ Good Friday
7:00 pm Service of Tenebrae
¬ The Service of Tenebrae is an austere service, during which the candlelight in the sanctuary is gradually extinguished as the Scripture is read and the silence grows. We recall the final steps of the journey to the crucifixion during this service and the worshipers depart in silence, mindful of the sacrifice of the cross.
March 23 ¬ Easter Sunday
Worship Services at 8:30 & 10:50 am
¬ The glory and mystery of Jesus’ resurrection, the triumph of God’s love over sin and death, is celebrated in worship on Easter Sunday. Join us on Easter morning as we rejoice in the grace of God’s amazing love.
Nursery provided for all services.
