LENT

Lent comprises the 40 days before Easter, excluding Sundays, and begins each year on Ash Wednesday. Lent was observed in the life of the early church as a time of preparation for baptism and we still emphasize our baptismal identity, of knowing and living the faith, during Lent today. Serving as a time of reflection, prayer, worship, and Scripture study, the season of Lent provides us with ample opportunity to examine and re-evaluate our lives. It becomes a time of metanoia (turning around, repentance), of changing the direction of our lives from the self-serving toward the self-giving found in the cross. It is the power of the resurrection ahead that draws us into repentance and the new way of being and living, as we respond to God’s grace to us in the gift of Jesus Christ.

THE ESTELLE LATTNER BROWN ANNUAL RECITAL SERIES
Thanks to a generous endowment from the late Estelle Lattner Brown, St. Andrew enjoys an annual recital series named for Mrs. Brown. Once a year, an organist of renown is invited to play a recital on the Lattner Memorial Organ, a 39-rank instument by Casavant Fréres, of St. Hyacinthe, Quebec, Canada.
