Annual Women's Retreat

Annual Women’s Retreat
Woman Wisdom and Her Sisters
January 20-21, 2012

@ Lantana Lodge, Lake Ray Roberts

Meet Woman Wisdom, Hokmah in Hebrew, Sophia in Greek. While biblical scholars debate whether Wisdom is a metaphor or a divine being such as the later understandings of the Holy Spirit or the Jewish Shekinah, we will explore Wisdom’s role in the world and in our lives. Woman Wisdom is a biblical persona with a message for all of us today: Get in touch with your wise inner spirit and claim your gifts of discernment, voice, peacemaking, community building, and healing. Biblical expressions of Woman Wisdom depict her longing to reside in every person - “I have good advice and sound wisdom; I have insight, I have strength. I love those who love me; and those who seek me diligently find me.” Proverbs 8:14, 17.

Mary Jo Kaska
About Mary Jo Kaska
We're delighted to introduce Mary Jo Kaska, who is completing her Ph.D. in Biblical Interpretation at Brite Divinity School at TCU in Fort Worth. She enjoys teaching Biblical Hebrew courses to divinity students, which is where Lisa Patterson met her while at Brite. Mary Jo's forthcoming dissertation explores the history and influence of the Baby Moses story, from its origin in Hebrew as a baby-saving story, its Greek retelling as divine providence, to the Baby Moses Law of Texas, the first legislation establishing safe havens for newborns who might otherwise be abandoned. We look forward to spending time getting to know Mary Jo during the retreat in January.
