Our World
serve-our-world

Basic Mission Support is one of our primary means of global Christian outreach, as we give to the ministry and mission of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). A percentage of our total budget is given each year to the work of Grace Presbytery, the Synod of the Sun, and the General Assembly, a tangible sign of our commitment to the whole church. In addition, we receive three special offerings each year at St. Andrew: the Christmas Joy Offering, One Great Hour of Sharing at Easter, and the Peacemaking Offering on World Communion Sunday, the first Sunday in October. The Presbyterian Mission Yearbook provides an annual overview of the work of our denomination within the United States as well as internationally.

A Peacemaking Seminar is held each spring on a Saturday morning, planned and organized by the Adult Faith Formation arm of the Christian Education committee. Stay tuned as more information about the seminar in 2010 is pulled into place.

serve-missionsSpring Break Mission Trip

Each year we send an intergenerational team of college students and other members of the congregation to Guatemala, to work with the Glicks, who are serving as missionaries in Guatemala City. As we participate in this cross-cultural mission trip we experience God at work in the world. Our commitment to Jesus Christ is deepened and our Christian worldview is expanded. These experiences encourage us to discover more about ourselves as we deepen our relationships with God and others.

While in Guatemala City we serve at Kairos House, a hospital ministry of compassion to families whose children have cancer, Casita Benjamin, a preschool and daycare center next to the huge city dump, as well as help with construction projects at local churches.

Summer High School Mission Trip

The last few years our high school youth have participated in annual mission trips to such far flung locations as Hollywood, New York, Boston, Puerto Rico, and, most recently, Cortez, Colorado. We have partnered with Youthworks, an organization that empowers young people to engage in direct mission service, the last three summers. We work alongside youth from two or three other churches from around the US, participating in home repair projects and working with underprivileged children in a program called "Kids' Club."
