Ways to Make a Difference in Denton

There are a myriad of ways to provide a helping hand in our community. You'll find several suggestions below on how you can do that.

December Food Drive

Our monthly community food drive is coordinated by the diaconate's Community Outreach committee. They provide us with a menu for a nutritious meal and we bring the staples to the collection box by the Coke machine near Fellowship Hall. The committee members take the food we donate to the Denton Community Food Center at the end of the month. We are delighted to report that they took 236 pounds to the Food Center in November!

December Menu:  Chicken & Dumplings or Beef Stew, Canned Peas, Canned Carrots, Canned Pears
Optional Staples:  Coffee, Dry Milk, Cooking Oil

Apple Tree Project
Summer 2011
We participated in the Apple Tree Project, sponsored by Interfaith Ministries, again this year and we at St. Andrew sponsored 50 children and gave $3,370 for backpacks, school supplies and new shoes for the children of the DISD. Thank you all for your contributions!

Hearts for HomesHearts for Homes
The Mission committee is asking those members who are interested in helping low-income elderly residents of Denton County with minor home repairs or improvements to get in touch with Hearts for Homes directly. That way projects dates and information will get to you much more quickly.

For more information about Hearts for Homes, visit their website: www.heartsforhomes.org

Our Daily Bread
Our Daily Bread is an ecumenical community soup kitchen that serves a noon meal M-F in St. Andrew’s Fellowship Hall. This broadly based community endeavor reaches out in Christ's name with volunteers from diverse churches—Presbyterians, Methodists, Roman Catholics, ELCA Lutherans, Missouri Synod Lutherans, non-denominational Christians, members of the Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, Baptists, and Episcopalians.

The Treehouse 2010The Treehouse
The Treehouse is our after-school program for at-risk elementary aged students from two Denton elementary schools. On each school day, 13 children come to St. Andrew for a healthy snack, recreation, help with homework, and the support of adults who care about them. Volunteers help the director of the program with activities and snacks.

Want to Serve as a Treehouse Volunteer?
We always need smiling faces to greet the children and spend time with them each weekday after school. If you can come once a week, once a month, or on a substitute basis, we'd love to have you! If you can lend a hand, please get in touch with the Director, Stephanie Raesz, or Ruby Crouch, Treehouse Volunteer Coordinator.

The Children's Place
The Children's Place preschool program is another form of outreach to children at St. Andrew. TCP runs concurrently with the Denton ISD schedule, which means that it is closed during the summer months.
