A Theology of Service in the Name
of Jesus Christ
We seek as a congregation to embody
the truth of a statement attributed to Emil Brunner that “the
church exists for mission as fire exists for burning.” The
church does not exist for the sake of itself and is not
a club of like-minded people created for the benefit of
its members. Whenever the church becomes insulated from
the diverse needs of the human family (i.e., the hungry,
the thirsty, the stranger, the naked, the sick, and the
imprisoned of Matthew 25), it stands in peril of ceasing
to be the church of Jesus Christ. |
