| Overview |
We have something for everyone in our Christian Education ministry at St. Andrew, from the youngest member of your family to the oldest. We are proud of our excellent programming—one of the hallmarks of the Reformed tradition is the life of the mind in the service of Jesus Christ. We offer a traditional Sunday School hour, a thriving Wednesday evening ministry, and active youth and university ministries. We seek to learn and grow as disciples of Jesus Christ through these many offerings in Christian Education.
Fall Festival of FaithSince the autumn of 1990, St. Andrew Presbyterian Church has celebrated a Fall Festival of Faith, featuring a nationally known preacher, teacher, and scholar. Since 1998, the Fall Festival has been funded by the Ruth I. Anderson Bequest fund. Reformation Sunday, October 25, 2009, will be the first of the two parts to the Fall Festival this year. Preacher and scholar Jennifer Lord will be with us at St. Andrew that morning. The Rev. Dr. Jennifer Lord is on the faculty of Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, where she is an Associate Professor of Homiletics and Dean of the Chapel. Dr. Lord places her work at the intersection of homiletical theory and liturgical theology. Interest in ritual studies, performance theory, and creative processes for preaching supplement her work on preaching as a liturgical act. We look forward to having Jennifer Lord at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church on Reformation Sunday; she will preach at both the 8:30 and 10:50am worship services. In addition, Dr. Lord will meet with the adults of the church at 9:30am in Fellowship Hall, where she will discuss "Maintaining Divine Worship According to Calvin: Worship Renewal Trends in our Time." We will hold a church picnic on the front lawn immmediately following the second worship service that Sunday. We invite you to join us for a thought-provoking time of learning and worship, as well as a wonderful lunch and time of fellowship in what we hope will be balmy autumn weather. Tuesday, October 27, 7:00-8:30 pm, will constitute the second part of this year's Festival. We will have the privilege of welcoming Professors of Theology James Duke and David Gouwens, of Brite Divinity School at TCU, to Fellowship Hall for a multi-media presentation on John Calvin entitled "The Wide and Generous Vision of John Calvin." We encourage those who are interested in Reformed theology and John Calvin to join us Tuesday evening. We will have a nursery for young children and refreshments will be provided after the presentation. Please plan to join us. Previous guest preacher scholars have included:
