Sunday we receive confirmands
into membership during worship, although
technically they join the church at a prior
Session meeting (for those of you Presbyterian
rules people!). As the confirmands stand before
us, several important things are taking place.
First of all, the congregation makes a
commitment -- much like the way the congregation
stands for those who are baptized, the gathered
congregation will make a commitment to the
confirmands to continue to work with them as we
all grow in our faithfulness. Secondly, the
confirmands will make public professions of
faith -- it is part of the growing in the faith
process envisioned by those who decided we would
have a confirmation process, which is literally
a process designed so that the youth can confirm
the vows made when their parents presented them
for baptism. Thirdly, the congregation serves as
witnesses to the public profession of faith each
of our confirmands will make. In theory, any of
us who witness these professions of faith can
remind the confirmands later in their lives
about the commitment they have made and ask them
to live into those professions (of course,
someone could do that to each of us as well!).
Finally, as we hear the confirmands profess
their faith in Jesus Christ, we are reminded
that we are bound together in Christ, a bond
that transcends all things, even death itself. I
hope you will be in worship Sunday for this
wonderful, powerful moment in our faith
lives.
Yours in Christ,
Richard

Mother's
Day Gift Bags
Once again, we are
approaching that time of year when we have an
opportunity to donate Mother's Day Gift Bags to
give encouragement and hopefully bring a bright
spot into the lives of some of the homeless and
less fortunate moms in our community through
Giving Hope, Inc. We are requesting help from
the congregation in the form of new personal
care and beauty products such as: shampoo,
conditioner, nail products, toothbrushes,
toothpaste, lotion, lipstick, etc.
Join
us in creating awesome Mother's Day Gift Bags
for these moms! Please place your donations in
the designated collection bins by the soda
machine outside Fellowship Hall during the
months of March and April. Thank You!
