I have now participated
in a Palm/Passion Sunday, and I like the way the
liturgy celebrated the arrival of Christ in
Jerusalem and pointed us toward the crucifixion.
I hope you will join us Thursday (tonight) as we
have table fellowship and celebrate the Lord's
Supper as part of our Maundy Thursday gathering,
and of course, I am looking forward to the
Tenebrae service (it seems odd to look forward
to reflecting on Christ's crucifixion),
particularly since I have heard so much about
the atmosphere, candles, and music that will be
part of the service. Easter, with its glorious
hymns, brass accompaniment, and hearing again
about the resurrection waits for us. But what
about Saturday -- the day before the stone is
rolled away from the front of the tomb; the day
when tradition tells us Christ descended into
hell; the day when the hearts of the followers
of Christ were still broken; the day when
hopelessness reigned? What are we to make of
this day when the creative possibilities were
unleashed by God to bridge the gap between the
death of hope and the birth of new life. It is
hard to imagine what was happening in the tomb,
much less what God might have been doing that
day. When we gather on the lawn around a fire
pit Saturday, we will tell the stories of the
God of creation, who chooses to create and then
continually return to save God's people. A story
of God whose desire to love finds new and
incredible ways to love us. Imagine the creative
power of God that leads to resurrection, and
then consider the creative possibilities for
what God might be doing in your life, in the
life of St. Andrew, and in our world.
Yours in Christ,
Richard

Great Hour of Sharing Offering Received on
Sunday, April 16th
Millions of people around the world lack
access to sustainable food sources, clean water,
san
itation, education, and
opportunity.
Each gift to One Great Hour of Sharing
(OGHS) helps to improve the lives of people in
these challenging situations. The Offering
provides us a way to share God's love with our
neighbors in need. In fact, OGHS is the single,
largest way that Presbyterians come together
every year to work for a better world.
One Great Hour of Sharing, received on
Easter Sunday, makes a difference in the world
through three impactful programs: Presbyterian
Disaster Assistance, the Presbyterian Hunger
Program, and Self-Development of People.

Women Presbyterian Women
will meet on Tuesday, April 18 in the church
parlor from 9:30am until 11:00am.
Refreshments provided by Circle II and our
Speaker for the morning will be Suzanne Baroody.
She will be talking about PDA's work in human
caused disasters. "When we picture a disaster,
we think of the devastation of a tornado or
hurricane; homes, trees and lives uprooted by
nature's fury. Relief agencies rush to the
rescue providing material and emotional care,
but what about those whose lives have been torn
apart by human-caused disasters which leave so
many questions unanswered?
Suzanne will be sharing the unique role
that PDA's national response team serves in
providing emotional and spiritual care during
and after human caused disaster. There will be
time for Q & A.
We will also dedicate the Birthday
Offering and Least Coin. We welcome all women of
the church to join us. For more information
please contact Linda Heilig, Moderator
940-381-9934.
