Pastor's Column
In a throwback to games that did not require a TV, phone, or Internet connection, let's play "What am I?"

  1. I am a check for $21 that Richard sent to St. Andrew (yes, in the day of internet banking, I had the bank send a check to the office down the hall from mine!). What am I?
  2. I will be joined by another check in May, two more in July, and another in October. What am I?
  3. The two checks in July will be approximately 2.5 times as much my $21. What am I?
  4. I will be designated to a particular fund of our Endowment. What am I?
  5. Every member is invited to send a similar type check, although most will be for different amounts. What am I?

I am the gift to the Birthday Fund celebrating the 21st birthday of my daughter Noelle.

I hope you make giving to the Birthday Fund a part of celebrating your birthdays. My history with the Birthday Fund is tied directly to St. Andrew. Ten years or so ago, I was visiting in worship here at St. Andrew and heard a Minute for Mission about the Birthday Fund. The idea so captivated me that I returned to OH with this great idea for the Endowment Fund at the church I served, and they started a Birthday Fund there. It became a fun, exciting part of the giving in that congregation. In fact, I remember an older member (90+ years old) who would proudly tell everyone he "could not afford another birthday because his birthday fund contribution was getting so big."

Even as we receive gifts in celebration of our birthdays, the Birthday Fund allows us a chance to give thanks to God for the gift of our lives. I hope you will join me in making those celebratory gifts on your birthdays.

Yours in Christ,

Richard
Parents' Night Out
Parents' Night Out is a program for the young families of St. Andrew. The program has a two-fold purpose: it gives parents an opportunity to spend quality time together without their children and it gives the children an evening of fun, age-appropriate activities with their friends at St. Andrew. The evening runs from 4:00pm-8:00pm for infants-3 yr. olds in the Nursery. In the Rec. Center, 4 yr. olds-elementary age will meet from 4:00pm-9:00pm. We ask parents to make reservations no later than Thursday, the week of PNO. Please email Ms. Sue at: toddlerqueen2@gmail.com, or call at 940-300-9262, for reservations.
Spring dates: 1/14, 2/11, 3/11, 4/8, 5/13

Denton Christian Preschool Supply Drive
It is once again time to assist the Denton Christian Preschool with creative art and classroom supplies!  It is such a blessing to help little ones become more interested in the arts, especially for this school.  Their special needs this year are finger paints (all colors), construction paper, easel/finger paint paper, lunch bags, paper plates, paper towels, toilet paper, liquid hand soap, children's toothpaste, AA batteries, 9V batteries, safety pins, watercolors, and glue sticks.  You may leave the supplies in the bins downstairs under the sign for Denton Christian Preschool.  Thank you for your generous help!
Update from the Mission Committee
Due to our congregation's generous Christmas Eve Offering, a total of $4,200 was collected. $2,100 will be used to support the Pastor's Discretionary Fund, and $2,100 will support Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, specifically the disasters in Lebanon/Syria. If you would like to make additional contributions to Presbyterian Disaster Relief, please go to https://pda.pcusa.org/page/active-accounts/
Thank you for the many ways you support the missions of our church!
Outreach Spotlight of the Month:
Give a Meal a Month
It's celebration time! In 2016 we more than doubled our goal of 2,000 pounds of food donations to the Denton Community Food Center. We had 912 pounds of donated food items and monetary donations of $624 which totaled 4,368 pounds of food. Remember, if you forget to bring your food items or just don't have time to go to the store, a monetary gift of just $1.00 buys 7 pounds of food. Imagine, $1 buys 7 boxes of spaghetti or 7 boxes of macaroni and cheese! The $61 donated in December alone provided 427 pounds of food. Please write The Denton Community Food Center on the memo line of your check or just pop some extra change or a few dollars in one of the envelopes provided in the pew. When you write The Denton Community Food Center on the envelope, you'll know that your money will be multiplied by 7. A big shout out to Circle #1 for their monetary contributions to this great St. Andrew outreach!
January Give-a-Meal

Please return your non-perishable donations for the Denton Community Food Center to the collection bin by the Coke machine near Fellowship Hall. Thank You!
Chancel Flowers

Call for 2017 Ushers
Volunteers are needed to serve as ushers for 2017.   If you can serve, please contact Jonny Ramsey at jramsey18@verizon.net for more information and available dates.
Handbell Ringers Needed
The handbell choir needs some additional ringers. Attrition over the years has left us with too few people!
The group is open to members and non-members. Anyone from senior high through adult may join without audition. Students in junior high who have considerable musical experience may be accepted after consultation with the director. Some familiarity with musical notation is strongly encouraged. This does not mean fluent music reading. If you took piano decades ago, or played in the junior high band, or anything of that sort, this is plenty. Rhythm is much more important than reading letter names.
Rehearsals take place in the adult choir room, from 6:30pm to 7:30pm on Wednesday nights (during the "class" time at Super Wednesday). Spring rehearsals begin when Super Wednesday resumes. If you are interested, either contact Jean Harden ( jean.harden@unt.edu) or simply show up.
