The Shield | St. Andrew Presbyterian Church
Congregational Meeting on July 24
This Sunday we will vote to call a new pastor at the congregational meeting after the 10:30am service. Please plan to attend!

The Pastor Nominating Committee carefully reviewed 100 Pastor Information Forms, listened to many hours of sermons and conducted phone and skype interviews with several applicants. The person we are presenting is unanimously and enthusiastically supported by all members of the PNC.

We have updated our process and will publish our informational brochure via email and on the St. Andrew website tomorrow afternoon.  If you would like to preview our candidate's educational, ministry and family background and finds links to years of sermons and blogs, please check out the materials we will publish Friday afternoon.  We know you will love him.

The candidate will not preach or be present this Sunday. The PNC believes just one sermon provides more limited information than our testimonies will provide. This has become a common practice to save time and money.  But if you would like to review the vast inventory of online sermons, please feel free to do so ahead of the meeting this Sunday.

The PNC plans for him to start on October 1, 2016.  Come hear all about our candidate and vote on the call!
First Friday Fun at The Bearded Monk with Artists Enclave of Denton County
The Artists Enclave of Denton County enjoys bringing artists, arts supporters and the whole Denton community together in support of local nonprofits like Our Daily Bread. St. Andrew Presbyterian Church members, Susan Carol Davis and Linda Anderson, are coordinating FAB FRIDAY, a very special First Friday event on August 5, 7-10pm, at The Bearded Monk, 122 East McKinney Street.
There will be no cover charge but all coming that evening are asked to bring much needed items for Our Daily Bread including bottled water, sunscreen, insect repellent, deodorant and razors (safety). Come enjoy live music, raffle prize drawings for those donating items, TX Fire Pies mobile wood fired brick oven pizza /cold beverages for purchase and summertime fun with friends new and old. "Flat Jesus" Travels the World...or at least Denton
Your child created a Flat Jesus in art at VBS this week. The concept of Flat Jesus began at a church in Michigan, and it has quickly caught on with many churches around the world. It is similar to the concept of Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown. We encourage you to take your Flat Jesus with you this summer as a reminder of our week of VBS.
We would love to see all of places that Jesus visits! Make sure you take a picture and send it to Derek Shorthose at derek@saint-andrew.com. Please also send where the picture was taken, who is in the picture with Flat Jesus, if anyone, and when the picture was taken. The pictures and information will be posted on The St. Andrew Flat Jesus Project Facebook Page.
Thank you for a wonderful week at VBS!  We look forward to seeing the adventures of Flat Jesus.
Thank You!
Our family is so very grateful for all of the loving and thoughtful things you did for Helen--and for each of us--during the past 14 years. Your prayers and many acts of kindness have been so appreciated.
Helen was baptized, confirmed, and during her high school years served as a deacon at St. Andrew. Though she was a member of other churches as an adult, St. Andrew was always her church. Now her ashes rest in our columbarium.
It has been a difficult time for our family, but the loving support from each of you has certainly eased our pain.

May God continue to bless us all.

Apple Tree Project
It's that time of year again! For over 10 years, St. Andrew Presbyterian Church members have been making an impact through the Apple Tree Project. Our church, through the Community Outreach Committee, has been affiliated with the citywide Apple Tree Project sponsored by Interfaith Ministries of Denton. The project identifies families who are struggling financially and unable to provide the back-to-school essentials for their children. Interfaith Ministries also uses grants to help purchase school supplies and shoes in bulk economically to assist more families. The apples will be available in the Narthex after June 1, and you can choose the child you would like to support by purchasing two sets of clothing. Or you may contribute monetarily by marking your check "Apple Tree Project". The deadline for donations of clothing, gift cards or checks is July 22. Additional instructions will be provided when you pick up your apple.
Summer Shield Schedule
The Shield will be published bi-weekly on the following dates this summer: 8/4, 8/18, 9/1.
Summer After-Worship Fellowship Time
The Fellowship Time after the worship will continue through the summer. The Membership Committee would like to ask that each member contribute two dozen cookies or a fruit platter served on a disposable plate on the date that corresponds to the first letter of your last name. If you are going to be out of town on that date, feel free to bring your goodies on any Sunday. This is a wonderful opportunity to greet our members, as well as to meet our visitors each Sunday.
