Barks for Bailey

What is your favorite toy?
Tabitha, that's a hard one!  On Easter Sunday I was given a beautiful red, white, and blue, pull toy that a friend made for me.  This is my favorite "tug-of-war" toy.  Squeak and honk toys are great too!  I haven't found one that I can't tear up, pull the stuffing out of, and get the squeaker.  I'm glad I don't have to clean up the mess.   My very favorite toy is the one you might see me carrying around.  It's a red Kong.  I like to play keep-away with it.  I also like people to throw it for me so I can try to catch it on first bounce.  BUT, the best toy is whatever toy that I have in my mouth!!!

What kind of a bed do you sleep on every night, and where do you take naps?
Victoria, dog to dog, I must confess that I have lots of beds to nap on, but at night, I sleep at the foot of my parent-owner's bed.  (Sometimes I weasel up between them when there is a thunderstorm outside.)  I have a bed in the church office, but usually I like to nap wherever I can keep an eye on where the action is, because I like to greet visitors and I don't want to be left out of meetings.
Naps are very important.  In fact, Jesus got away from people to take naps.  This was his way of taking care of himself when so many people were making demands on him.  I spend a lot of time napping in the bed in the back of Alan's car.    When he drives back and forth to Addison every day on bumpy I-35, I pretend that I am like Jesus sleeping in a boat in a storm on the Sea of Galilee.  The other week, when we had a lot of rain, the highway flooded and we drove through 4" deep puddles.  I started to get scared, but then I remembered Jesus, and I slept right through the waves on the highway.  Napping is good for your soul!

I want to thank each and every one who helped with my new apartment. It's great to have such a huge family. Anything I can do for y'all, just let me know.

Love,

Thank You!

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ:

Our family continues to feel lifted up, comforted, and sustained by your many acts of kindness during Bob's illness and death: visits to the hospital, and later to Autumn Leaves; sitting with me at Bob's bedside; your thoughts and prayers; phone calls and notes; a lovely green plant; running errands for me; the food so lovingly prepared and delivered when we needed it; memorial gifts to dogs for the deaf; and your care and concern throughout. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

In Christ's love and with a grateful heart,
Jane Jaegerman
Kirkin' Followup
After our 4/19 Kirkin' o' the Tartans service, we're all feeling a wee bit more Scottish.  Thank you to all of you who planned, participated, attended and supported.  It was a very special day for our church.  We have a multitude of you to recognize and we'll do that in early May on the special Kirkin' page on the St. Andrew web site.  We'll be posting some great pictures from the Kirkin' as well.  If you would like to submit your favorite moment from our Kirkin' day for inclusion on the web page, please e-mail your reflection to dtbergan@verizon.net by April 30.  And, yes, we would still be happy to accept your donation to defray Kirkin' expenses - please clearly mark your donation for the "Kirkin".

An enthusiastic crowd enjoyed a wonderful afternoon of beautiful music and we thank you all for your hard work and for sharing your talents with us.  So, when's the next show?
The St. Andrew Directories Have Arrived!
Distribution on Wednesdays will be in Fellowship Hall from 5:30-6:30pm.  Sunday distribution will be in the Narthex between services and after the 10:50am service.  Directories will not be mailed so please try to pick yours up.
A directory will be set aside for each of you who had a portrait made and there were extra copies ordered for other members to enjoy.  If you did not participate in the directory but would like a copy, a $5.00 donation to help cover the costs of printing extra copies would be appreciated.
Wonderful New Magnetic Name Tags!
The Membership Committee has listened to many complaints about how difficult it is to read the names on our current name tags, as well as what a challenge it is to wear them.  Lynn Carrico has diligently searched to find a great deal for us to obtain brand new magnetic name tags in blue with white letters.  The tags are 1 ?" by 3" with only first and last names on them, which are very readable!  The budget does not allow for Membership to purchase them, but the tags may be purchased by individuals for only $5.00 each.  This also means that if a family wants to have name tags for their children, they can order those, too.  Lynn will have a sample name tag to show and will begin taking orders for the name tags on Super Wednesday, April 8, at the same time as the new directories will be given out.  We will continue taking orders throughout April at Super Wednesdays and on Sunday mornings.  Be sure to order yours now!
Call for CASA Advocate Volunteers
On Sunday, April 26, a representative from CASA of Denton County, Inc. will be in the Narthex at St. Andrew with information about their Child Advocate Program.   CASA is seeking advocate volunteers who are willing to make a difference in the life of a child in foster care.
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Denton County, Inc. is a volunteer-based non-profit organization serving the Denton County area. Through CASA, volunteers are appointed by the court to serve as advocates for abused or neglected children removed from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS). These volunteers work with a caseworker to investigate and monitor a child's situation while in alternative or foster care. Within a twelve- to eighteen-month time period, they make a recommendation to the presiding judge as to what permanent placement would be in the best interest of the child. The CASA volunteer is intended to be a frequent presence in the lives of abused and neglected children. By advocating for the best interests of the child above all else, CASA hopes to ensure that each and every child is given the opportunity to grow and thrive in a safe, loving, and permanent home.
Last year (2014) CASA of Denton County served 485 children but were not able to serve 83. So far this year (Jan-April 17, 2015), CASA of Denton County has been appointed to 41 cases, involving 55 children! They were not able to accept appointments to 10 cases, involving 12 children.
The St. Andrew Mission and Community Outreach Committees encourage St. Andrew members to stop by the table in the Narthex this Sunday, talk with a CASA representative, and receive information about the program.  Please make your friends, neighbors, and extended family aware of this much needed volunteer program.
