MISSION

The Great Ends of the Church
The great ends of the church are:
The proclamation of the gospel for the salvation of humankind;
The shelter, nurture, and spiritual fellowship of the children of God;
The maintenance of divine worship;
The preservation of the truth;
The promotion of social righteousness; and
the exhibition of the kingdom of Heaven to the world.

Theological Perspective and Mission Statement
The primary mission of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, Denton, Texas, is to enact the six Great Ends of the Church. Our purpose is to call human beings, in the name of Jesus Christ, to a faithful relationship with him as the Lord of life. Central to this message is repentance of sin and the hope of new life offered through God’s forgiving grace.

Nurturing discipleship is central to our life together, and we endeavor to do so through worship, Christian education, fellowship, and compassionate outreach to the hungry, the thirsty, the stranger, the naked, the sick, and the imprisoned (Matthew 25:35-36). We recognize that being Christian is not easy. The modern world is full of competing claims asking for our loyalty and compromising our faith. Yet our faith is anchored not in what we are able to do of our own volition, but in the saving grace of Jesus Christ. We, therefore, affirm with gratitude and hope that “we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us” (Philippians 4:13). As the future unfolds, we shall seek to be a community in which all participants are nourished with Christian gratitude and hope, and sent back into the world as faithful disciples of the living Christ.

As important as our individual Christian lives are, our identity and faithfulness as a congregation are no less significant. We worship and work not in isolation, but together as a community of God’s people. Our public life together is a life of servanthood. As servants of the risen Christ, we rely on the Holy Spirit to create the future God wants for us, giving us the courage we need:

to pray without ceasing,
to witness among all peoples to Christ as Lord and Savior,
to unmask idolatries in Church and culture,
to hear the voices of peoples long silenced,
and to work with others for justice, freedom, and peace.
