| Our History as a Congregation |
St. Andrew Presbyterian Church was founded 1862, as part of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. A group of six families, led by a Presbyterian minister, the Rev. R. R. Dunlap, put down roots in the then frontier town of Denton, Texas. At the time, there were no church buildings in town, although both the Methodists and the Baptists had formed congregations. Through the years, St. Andrew Presbyterian Church has been part of three denominations. We became part of the Presbyterian Church in the United States of America in the early 1900s. In 1983, our denomination became the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) when the two major streams of Presbyterianism in this country became one. We have grown from six families to a congregation of approximately 750 members who endeavor to be faithful disciples of Jesus Christ and who proclaim the good news of salvation. |
